What to bring to a borrowing appointment

We look forward to seeing you. To make it easy for you, we’ve created a "what to bring" list
to help you prepare for your upcoming appointment.

Identification

You will need to bring one eligible piece of identification with you. Your identification must be valid, original, and in good condition.

The eligible piece of identification must:

  • Contain a photo; and
  • Be issued by a government agency, including a federal government, (for example, Canada or the United States or other foreign government), or by a province/territory/state level government.

List of Eligible Photo Identification:

  • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship
  • Certificate of Indian Status issued by the Government of Canada
  • Driver’s licence, footnote 1
  • Firearms Licence
  • Government Issued ID Card or Document
  • Immigration Canada Documents, footnote 2
  • NEXUS Card
  • Passport
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Provincial or territorial health insurance card, footnote 3

Verification of employment

We will need to confirm your income or employment earnings. Please be prepared to provide documentation to verify all sources of income. For example:

  • Most recent pay stub or advice of pay, letter from employer to confirm salaried incomes
  • Last two years T1 General supported by the corresponding Notice of Assessment for self-employed income or variable type income (e.g. commission or overtime)
  • Based on the type of employment or income, additional supporting documentation may be required.
  • You may want to consider making a list of your different assets and liabilities that may be required as part of your application.

Other required documents depend on the financing you need. Please refer to the category that best matches your appointment type for a list of the other items to bring with you.
