You don’t have to do anything to start getting 2x the Miles. Starting April 23, 2024, you’ll get 2x the Miles at eligible wholesale clubs or alcohol retailers. Please allow up to 14 days for your Miles to appear on your AIR MILES collector account.

When you make a purchase at a grocery store or supermarket that sells a complete line of food products (think vegetables, ice cream and everything in between), you can earn 2x the Miles. Convenience stores, bakeries, butchers and other specialty shops are excluded from this benefit (those purchases will earn the base rate of 1 Mile for $25 spent with a BMO AIR MILES Mastercard and 1 Mile for $12 spent with a BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard).
Any public or private retailer located in Canada whose primary product offering consists of alcohol products will qualify for the 2x Miles benefit. This is dictated by Mastercard’s Merchant Category code 5921, “Package Stores, Beer, Wine, Liquor”.
Any public or private retailer located in Canada requiring a membership fee to make purchases, and who may or may not sell bulk goods, will qualify for the 2x Miles benefit on Wholesale Clubs. This is dictated by Mastercard’s Merchant Category Code 5300, “Wholesale Clubs”.
Each category, Grocery, Alcohol, and Wholesale Clubs, has an individual maximum of $500 in eligible net purchases posted to your account per statement cycle period. Once the maximum is reached, purchases will no longer be eligible for this benefit. For example, once you spend $500 at an eligible grocery store in one statement period, grocery spend beyond $500 will not qualify for the 2x Miles benefit, but you still would have $500 in eligible spend remaining in the Wholesale Clubs category, as well as $500 in eligible spend remaining in the Alcohol retailer category.
We calculate your Bonus Miles based on the total amount you spend cumulatively at eligible merchants during your most recent statement period. For example, if your total eligible Wholesale Clubs purchases totaled $600 on your AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard, then 91 Miles would be earned. 1 Mile for every $12 in spend would be issued on the base earn rate for a total of 50 AIR MILES Reward Miles and 1 Bonus Mile would be issued for up to $500 in eligible purchases for a total of 41 Bonus Miles resulting in a combined total of 91 Miles. Miles earned will be rounded down to the nearest whole number. Fractions of Miles will not be awarded. Your AIR MILES collector account will display the base Miles and Bonus Miles individually.
There are a few reasons why that might have happened:
- The new benefit starts April 23, 2024, so if you made your purchase before then, it wouldn’t be eligible for 2x the Miles.
- Your purchase may have been made after your statement period. Please allow between 14-90 days for your Miles to appear on your AIR MILES collector account. The 90 days would be dependant on your statement period, in wich the Miles calculated at the 2x Miles benefit rate will appear 90 days pf your purchase.
- You didn’t use your BMO AIR MILES Mastercard – you’ll need to use the card for purchases to be eligible.
- If your purchase was refunded or if the transaction was a cash advance, cash-like transaction, interest charge, fee, or credit or debit adjustment, you won’t get Miles.

- BMO AIR MILES Mastercard cardholders will earn 1 AIR MILES Bonus Mile for every $25 in purchases made at eligible grocery merchants classified by Mastercard’s “Merchant Category Code” as “grocery stores and supermarkets” (MCC 5411) to earn 2 total Miles including the base earn rate. BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard cardholders will earn 1 AIR MILES Bonus Mile for every $12 in purchases made at eligible grocery merchants classified by Mastercard’s “Merchant Category Code” as “grocery stores and supermarkets” (MCC 5411) starting to earn 2 total Miles including the base earn rate.
