How to bank FAQs

You can pay your bills online in a matter of seconds. Here’s how:
1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking.
2. Select Payments & Transfers in the top menu.
3. Select the account you wish to use, the recipient, the payment amount and the date.
4. Select Verify Payment.
5. Select Submit Transaction and confirm.
That’s it! Keep in mind that a bill payment can take 3 to 5 business days to process.
If you paid a bill through BMO Online Banking, Mobile Banking, Telephone Banking or at a branch from a bank account, you can cancel the payment. Here’s how:
1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking.
2. Select Payments & Transfers in the top menu.
3. Select Cancel a Payment in the left-hand navigation menu.
4. Select the payment you’d like to cancel by clicking on the box next to the item (you’ll see a checkmark appear).
5. Select Verify Cancellation.
6. Confirming that you’ve selected the right bill.
7. Clicking Cancel Payment.
You’re done! You’ll receive a confirmation that the cancellation is complete.
Bill payments can be cancelled if the payment was made the same day, before 11:00 p.m. (ET). Bill payments made after 11:00 p.m. (ET) can be cancelled up to 11:00 p.m. (ET) the following day.
If you missed the deadline to cancel the payment, don’t worry – you can request a refund of your payment instead. Here’s what to do:
1. Select Payments & Transfers.
2. Select Investigate a Bill Payment in the left-hand navigation menu.
Bill payments made at a branch by cash or from your account to a BMO credit card or BMO Line of Credit can be cancelled by visiting the branch.
You can send an Interac^®‡ e-Transfer in minutes by following a few simple steps:
1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking.
2. Select Payments & Transfers in the top menu.
3. Select Pay & Transfer in the bottom menu, then select Send Money.
4. Enter the amount of money and the account you’d like to send it from.
5. Choose (or add) someone from your contact list.
6. Enter a security question, along with the correct answer.
7. Review and confirm your request.

Sending an online request for an Interac^®‡ e-Transfer is simple. Just follow these steps:
1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking.
2. Select Payments & Transfers in the top menu.
3. Click More in the bottom menu, then select Interac e-Transfers.
4. Select Request Money.
5. Choose (or add) someone from your contact list.
6. Enter the amount and which account to deposit the money in. You can even include a message.
7. Review and confirm your request.
Direct deposit can save you time, effort, and a trip to the bank. Here’s how to set it up:
1. For your paycheque and other day-to-day payments, download the BMO Direct Deposit Form. If you want to set up direct deposit for your government payments, download the Government of Canada direct deposit form.
2. Complete the form, save (or print), and attach a void cheque (or simply include your account number, financial institution number and branch transit number, which can be found on your cheques or in Online Banking).
3. Send the completed form to the institution so they can start depositing your payments directly.
