Requesting money online has never been easier with Interac e-Transfer® footnote double dagger. Whether you’re splitting a bill with friends or requesting rent money from a tenant—as long as you both have an email address and Canadian bank account, you can request money. You can also receive money from overseas quickly and easily with a wire tranfer.

Sign in to the BMO Mobile Banking App

Tap More, then interac e-Transfer®, then Request Money.

Select a contact

Let us know from whom you’d like to request money, how much and the account you’d like the money deposited into.

Review your request and tap send request and you’re all set!

Sign in and go to Pay & Transfer

Sign in to Online Banking and select the Pay & Transfer tab from the menu at the top of your screen.

Go to Interac e-Transfer and select Send or Request money tab

Then select Interac e-Transfer and select the Send or Request money tab. Then choose a contact whom you’d like to request money, how much and the account you’d like the money deposited into.

Add a message to your contact

Verify the details of your request and tap Send Request and you’re all set!

Receive money from overseas with wire transfers

You can receive money from around the globe through a wire transfer. Just provide the sender with some of your banking details, and the money will land in your account within days.

Here’s the information you’ll need to give to the sender:
  • Your account number
  • Your BMO branch phone number, address and transit number
  • Your bank’s name: Bank of Montreal
  • BMO’s institution number: 001
  • BMO SWIFT BIC (if the money is coming from overseas): b o f m c a m 2
For wire transfers coming from the U.S., you’ll also need to include:
  • Correspondent bank: Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., New York
  • SWIFT Code: p n b p u s 3 n n y c
  • ABA: 026005092

Requesting money online FAQ

  • They’ll be sent an email that lets them accept or decline your request.

  • Once someone accepts your request and the money has been deposited to your account, you’ll be sent an email to let you know.

  • Of course. Whether you’ve sent a request to the wrong person, entered the wrong amount or just changed your mind after sending it, you can cancel a request in the Interac e-Transfers® menu, select e-Transfer History and look for the request under Pending e-Transfers. If your request hasn’t been accepted, you can cancel it.

  • Yes. When someone gets the request for money email from Interac, they can either accept or decline your request. They can also provide a reason why they’re declining. You’ll then be sent an email to let you know.

  • Setting up Autodeposit is a breeze! On mobile banking, select INTERAC e-Transfers® from the More menu at the bottom of the app. From there, hit Manage Autodeposit and you’ll see the button to register.

    If you’re using Online Banking, head to the Pay & Transfer tab. From the Interac e-Transfers menu on the left, select Manage Autodeposit and follow the simple instructions.
